Returns & Core Deposits
30-day return window. 90-day core deposit return window. No runaround — we handle the supplier coordination for you.
Return Policy Overview
You may request a return within 30 days of confirmed delivery. Because Specter Parts is a sourcing intermediary, returns are coordinated with the supplying partner. Eligibility depends on the fitment confidence tier of the part:
- Tier A — Guaranteed Fit: If a Tier A part does not fit your vehicle due to a specification error on our part, we coordinate the return and issue a full refund at no cost to you. This includes return shipping.
- Tier B / C — High Confidence / Compatible: Assessed case-by-case. We will advocate on your behalf with the sourcing partner to reach a fair resolution. In most cases, eligible returns are processed within 5–7 business days of the request.
- Tier D — Verify First: All Tier D sales are final unless the part received is materially different from what was described in your invoice (wrong part number, wrong item shipped).
What Cannot Be Returned
The following items are excluded from all returns regardless of confidence tier:
- Parts that have been installed, used, or show signs of attempted fitment
- Consumable items: oil filters, air filters, cabin filters, spark plugs, belts, hoses, gaskets, and fluids
- Parts that have been physically modified, cut, or drilled after delivery
- Parts damaged by the customer after delivery
- Electrical components that have been connected to a vehicle's electrical system (e.g., ECUs, sensors, modules)
If you are unsure whether your part is eligible, email us at info@specterparts.ca before attempting to return it.
How to Return a Part
Step 1 — Contact Us
Email info@specterparts.ca within 30 days of delivery. Include your order reference number and a description of the issue. For fitment problems, include your VIN and a photo of the part next to the original.
Step 2 — Return Authorized
We review your request and confirm eligibility within 1–2 business days. For Tier A fitment errors, return authorization is automatic. For Tier B / C, we'll review the details and respond with next steps.
Step 3 — Ship the Part Back
Once authorized, we'll provide a return shipping label (for eligible Tier A returns) or instructions for returning the part to the supplier. Pack the part securely in its original packaging wherever possible.
Step 4 — Refund Issued
Once the supplier confirms receipt of the returned part, your refund is processed to the original payment method. Refunds typically appear within 3–5 business days depending on your card issuer.
Core Deposits Explained
A core charge (also called a core deposit) is a refundable deposit applied to certain remanufactured parts. The deposit incentivizes the return of the old (worn) part — known as the 'core' — so the manufacturer can rebuild it.
Which parts carry a core charge?
- Alternators and starters (remanufactured)
- Brake calipers (remanufactured)
- Power steering pumps and rack-and-pinion assemblies
- CV axles and driveshafts (remanufactured)
- Certain engine and transmission assemblies
The core charge is shown clearly on your quote and invoice. It is collected at checkout along with the part price and refunded when you return your old part.
You have 90 days from confirmed delivery to return your core and receive the deposit refund.
How to Return a Core
Step 1 — Log In & Request
Log into your account, go to Order History, and click 'Request Core Return' on the relevant order line. Do this within 90 days of delivery.
Step 2 — Pack Your Old Part
Pack the old (core) part securely. Ideally use the box your new part arrived in. The core must be complete — no missing brackets, housings, or hardware.
Step 3 — Ship It Back
We'll email you a prepaid return label. Drop the package at any Canada Post or UPS location. Keep your tracking receipt until the refund is confirmed.
Step 4 — Deposit Refunded
Once the supplier inspects and accepts the core, your deposit is refunded to your original payment method. This typically takes 3–7 business days after the supplier receives the part.
Returns & Core Deposit FAQs
What is the return window?
30 days from confirmed delivery for standard returns. 90 days from confirmed delivery for core deposit returns.
Do I pay for return shipping?
For Tier A fitment errors (where the fault is on our end), we provide a prepaid return label. For Tier B / C returns and core returns, we also provide prepaid labels in most cases — confirm with us when you initiate the return.
How long does a refund take?
Once the supplier confirms receipt of the returned item, refunds are processed within 1–2 business days by Specter Parts. Allow an additional 3–5 business days for your card issuer to post the credit.
My core was rejected — what happens?
Cores can be rejected if they are incomplete, seized, or externally damaged beyond normal wear. If your core is rejected, we'll notify you within 2 business days with the supplier's reason. Contact us and we'll review the decision.
Can I return a part I've already installed?
No. Installed parts cannot be returned under any circumstances. If you believe a part is defective after installation, contact us and we'll explore warranty options through the supplier.
